Military Police
Compliment
Some of the members of the
M.P. at Rackheath photographed in October 1944. Among their duties
included guarding the five entrances to the base and otherwise providing
security. With the arrival of the Group it was the duty of the M.P.'s to
see that the new men learned as soon as possible to conform to ETO
Regulations and the English way of doing things. These included driving on
the left-hand side of the road and the blacking out of vehicles and
barracks. The M.P.'s were ever present at the briefing buildings checking
everyman entering is assigned to fly on the day's mission or is directly
concerned with the briefing. Beside their regular station duties the
Military Police were called upon to guard numerous crashed aircraft in the
north-east of Norfolk in addition to crashes and forced landings on the
airfield.
